SMEs and innovation
Investment in R&D and innovation is essential for the UK’s economic recovery. The UK’s SMEs provide 60% of private sector jobs, account for half of all private sector turnover and are crucial to economic growth
Innovation will underpin future growth in productivity and competitiveness, in particular for high value-added export industries and in the wider knowledge economy. Innovation will provide the basis for tackling major global challenges.
Medium-sized and smaller enterprises play a key role in the performance of the UK economy. They are the most dynamic and creative part of the economy and will be the locomotive of future growth. They must be supported and empowered to achieve their full potential.
